2022 ANNUAL GALA
The first Council for Nail Disorders Annual Gala Dinner took place the Thursday evening before the Annual Meeting for the American Academy of Dermatology at Mastro’s Ocean Club restaurant in Boston. Twenty-eight of us attended the first-ever event for members and their significant others to honor the first two recipients of the Onychologist of the Year award. We schmoozed, had a wonderful dinner and had sommelier Ralph Daniel describe our dinner wines for this special occasion. The 2021 CND Onychologist of the Year award was awarded to Dr. Richard K. Scher, one of the original organizers of the CND back in the early 1990’s. Dr. Scher was honored for his contribution to nail disease and surgery, for his contributions to the nail literature, and for his mentorship to so many of us. Although he could not be there physically, he did attend virtually and was able to watch the photos shown of his early life, as contributed by members of his family, and hear the presentations honoring him given by Drs. Phoebe Rich, Shari Lipner and Ralph Daniel. Dr. Daniel read Dr. Scher’s comments on the acceptance of his 2021 award, delayed until this date due to the cancellation of the gala last year due to COVID. The 2022 award was given to Dr. Nathaniel J. Jellinek for his service as President of the Council for Nail Disease over the past 4 years, bringing our membership to a new organization free from pharmaceutical support and with member involvement in the operation and functions of the CND. Dr. Jellinek, a gifted surgeon with many publications and lectures in the field of nail disease and surgery, has been a gifted mentor to many of us throughout his career. Dr. Jellinek was honored with presentations by Dr. Mary Maloney, Dr. Julia Baltz, and Dr. Adam Rubin. A good time was had by all and all who attended felt the special bond that we all feel in what we do together as nail physicians but also as friends in this close-knit society.
